04Home Additions

More house, without losing the one you love.

Rear additions, second-storey additions, garage conversions, and bump-outs — designed to extend your existing home rather than look bolted onto it.

Home Additions by Redden's Contracting in Kingston, Ontario.

Overview

What additions work looks like with us.

An addition is structurally the most demanding thing we do. New foundations tying into forty-year-old footings, new roof lines threading into existing rafters, new wall assemblies matching old siding profiles, new electrical panels picking up the increased load. One mismatch and you can see it from the street for the life of the house.

We partner with structural engineers on every addition we build, pull the necessary permits, and run the trades so your family lives through the build with as little disruption as possible. Bathroom ensuite off the primary bedroom, a family room behind the kitchen, a full second storey over a bungalow — we've built them all in Kingston.

Questions, answered

Home Additions — questions we hear.

  • For most residential additions in Kingston, a BCIN-certified designer is sufficient (cheaper than an architect). We work with local designers and engineers and include drawing coordination in the project.

  • A simple bump-out: 8–12 weeks. A rear addition with new foundation: 4–6 months. A full second-storey addition: 5–7 months. We give you a detailed written schedule before signing.

  • Usually yes. We build the new structure closed-in before cutting through to the existing home, which keeps your living area weatherproof and clean for most of the project.
