09Deck Construction

Decks engineered for thirty Kingston winters.

Pressure-treated, cedar, and composite decks — with proper footings, code-compliant guards, and framing designed to outlast the decking.

Deck Construction by Redden's Contracting in Kingston, Ontario.

Overview

What decks work looks like with us.

Most Kingston decks we're called in to replace are the same story: frost-lifted footings, undersized ledger attachment, or deck-board brands that warped the moment the summer sun hit them. The structure underneath is where we put the effort — Sonotubes or helical piles below the frost line, hot-dip-galvanised hardware, and a ledger flashed and lag-bolted correctly to the house.

Above that? Whatever you want it to look like. Tight cedar with hidden fasteners for a clean finish, pressure-treated for the value choice, or high-end composite (Trex, TimberTech) for the no-maintenance crowd.

Questions, answered

Deck Construction — questions we hear.

  • In most cases, yes — decks over 60 cm above grade require a building permit in the City of Kingston. We handle the permit, engineered drawings, and inspection coordination.

  • Cedar if you love the look and are willing to re-stain every 2–3 years. Composite if you want to build it once and not think about it for 25 years. Both cost more up front than pressure-treated; both are worth the money in the right application.

  • A standard 200–400 sq ft deck: 2–3 weeks on site from footings to final railings. Add a week for pergolas or complex multi-level builds.
